In Kazakhstan, 13 people have been convicted of terrorist and extremist crimes over two months. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to the National Security Committee, in April-May 2026, 13 people were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment for terrorist and extremist crimes in criminal cases investigated by the NSC.

One of the convicted is a resident of Astana. He promoted terrorist ideology on social networks and incited others to travel to zones of terrorist activity. The court sentenced him to 8 years in prison.

The second convicted is a native of Shymkent. He called on others to create a theocratic state in Kazakhstan and spread terrorist ideas. The court sentenced him to 7 years in prison.

During this period, 11 people were detained on suspicion of committing similar crimes in the cities of Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, and in the Atyrau, Aktobe, Zhambyl, Karaganda, Turkistan, and Abai regions, including 2 foreigners and 3 Kazakh citizens extradited from abroad. They are suspected of distributing extremist materials online and among their circles, calling for travel to zones of terrorist activity, and inciting violence against those who disagree with their views.

Pre-trial investigations are ongoing under relevant articles of the Criminal Code.
