In Tashkent, 17 Kazakhstan citizens, including 11 children, were hospitalized. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to KTK, four of the victims are in intensive care. They had come for a children's football tournament and felt unwell after breakfast. Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry has taken the situation under control.
The mother of one of the football players, Olga Lazina, said that parents are still waiting for test results and a decision on returning the children home.
"The scariest thing is that we still don't have the analysis. PCR tests were taken yesterday evening, and we were promised they would be ready in just 12 hours. In the morning, they promised us a plane to Astana and that our children would be on the road for only five hours. Now it turns out there are no tickets. Neither for today nor for tomorrow. And our children — they are being sent by train. That's a day of transportation. Now the children are developing symptoms," she said.
Athletes aged eight to nine came to Tashkent for competitions and fell ill en masse. According to parents, the malaise began on Saturday after breakfast at the hotel, where the children ate scrambled eggs.
In the hospital are 11 children from three teams and six adults. All have fever, nausea, vomiting and severe diarrhea. Against this backdrop, the competitions were stopped.
Parents are looking for tickets to get to their children and do not rule out that the number of sick people may grow. Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry said it is monitoring the situation.
"All Kazakhstan citizens in need of assistance have been hospitalized in specialized medical institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and they are receiving the necessary medical care. Kazakh diplomats are in contact with the relatives of the victims and medical institutions, and are keeping this issue under constant control," the ministry said.
