Historical amnesia ultimately leads to a loss of humanity, said Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya and RT international media group. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

She moderated the session "Historical Amnesia of Europe" at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum. Speaking about the importance of preserving historical memory, Simonyan recalled a conversation with an American teacher during a student exchange program in the US during her school years.

According to her, the teacher did not believe that Washington bombed Belgrade. Margarita Simonyan then suggested he look up the information on the internet. "Twenty minutes later, the teacher returned 'pale as a sheet.' Historical amnesia leads to a loss of humanity. Because what unites the human community is a common memory, that is, history," Simonyan said.

It is worth noting that the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum is taking place in St. Petersburg from June 24 to 26.
