In the Zhambyl region, a buyer went to court to recover 6.5 million tenge paid for a stolen car. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to case materials, in June 2024, a man purchased a 2022 Hyundai Elantra for 6.5 million tenge. However, within a few months, police seized the vehicle — it turned out to be material evidence in a criminal case under investigation in Almaty.

During the proceedings, it was discovered that the car had been stolen from its legal owner and then resold. Additionally, the car's VIN number did not match its actual characteristics.

The court also found that a similar car with the same VIN number was being sold through classified ad sites in Samara. This confirmed that the documents provided at the time of sale were false.

"The court concluded that the buyer purchased a car that did not match the data in the technical passport. The court fully granted the claim: the sales contract was annulled. The seller was ordered to return 6.5 million tenge to the buyer, as well as reimburse the costs of state duty and representative services," the court's press service reported.

Earlier, Kursiv reported how another Kazakhstani recovered money for a car stolen in Ukraine. The criminal past of the vehicle came to light four years after the purchase, when the new owner decided to sell the car.
