The body of a newborn child was found in one of the canals on the outskirts of Taraz. Police have launched a pre-trial investigation and are searching for the infant's mother. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
How the body was discovered
According to the KTK television channel, the child's body was noticed by children playing nearby. At first they mistook it for a discarded doll. The infant's umbilical cord had not been cut.
Police statement
The Department of Police of the Zhambyl Region said it is establishing the circumstances of the incident.
"A pre-trial investigation has been launched into this fact. Police officers are carrying out all necessary operational-search measures to establish the identity of the mother," said the department's official representative, Gulsara Mukhtarkulova.
