Great Wall Motor has turned the Tank 300 into a far more serious off-roader. The Hooke Trail version received a front solid axle instead of an independent double-wishbone setup, and along with it – two rigid axles and the ability to fit 40-inch wheels. Pre-orders are already being taken in China, with a full launch promised before the start of October. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The main difference is under the body

The main difference of the Tank 300 Hooke Trail is hidden under the body. The front independent suspension has given way to a solid axle. The front part of the structure was also reinforced – a more massive axle housing and links appeared, while suspension stiffness was increased by 38%.

This layout allows the fitment of huge 40-inch off-road tires. On a regular Tank 300, the independent front suspension creates limitations in travel and drive angles under serious tuning.

40-inch wheels are not a factory size

There is an important nuance here. The ability to fit 40-inch wheels does not mean the vehicle will leave the factory that way. The standard size is 265/70 R18, while the huge tires are left as an option for further tuning.

Exterior and equipment

The exterior was also reworked: new bumpers, black lower cladding, a snorkel and towing devices appeared. A passive night vision system is available as an option.

The dimensions of the Tank 300 Hooke Trail are 4886×1984×1960 mm, with a wheelbase of 3010 mm. The approach angle reaches 41°, while the departure angle is 34° or 36° depending on the version.

Engine and transmission

Under the hood is a 2-liter turbo engine producing 170 kW and 400 N·m of torque. In addition, the off-roader received a final drive with an increased gear ratio for driving over difficult terrain.

Pre-orders and terms

On September 15, the Tank 300 Hooke Trail went on preliminary pre-order. Buyers are promised priority in production, a certificate worth 3,000 yuan (about 200,000 tenge) for modifications, and a set of branded badges for another 3,000 yuan.

An unusual evolution for the regular Tank 300

For the regular Tank 300, this is a rather unusual evolution. In essence, Great Wall Motor has implemented one of the main modifications straight from the factory that owners of the "three hundreds" used to carry out themselves. Now the question is how much such a version will cost.
