Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has proposed building a major oil refinery in Central Asia. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The initiative was announced at an informal meeting of leaders of Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan in Cholpon-Ata. According to Rahmon, the current situation on global and local markets underscores the importance of building the plant.
"Let us think about this very important issue. I propose to instruct the relevant agencies to work on the construction of a major oil refinery," he said.
The president also stressed the need to use modern technologies in the plant's construction. He added that when distributing products, each country's domestic demand should be taken into account.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also attended the meeting. He noted that Central Asia's role is confidently growing, and the region's voice on the world stage is becoming clearer and more substantial.
