Kazakhstan's water sector attracted a record 677 billion tenge in investments over two years. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

In 2024-2025, the volume of investments increased by 79% compared to the previous two years. This is approximately 300 billion tenge more than in 2022-2023.

"At that time, 377.9 billion tenge was invested in the development of the water sector," the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation said.

The attracted investments are primarily aimed at the construction and modernization of water infrastructure. In particular, reservoirs, canals, hydraulic structures and other facilities necessary for sustainable water supply to the population and agriculture are covered.

Among the projects being implemented with the investments are the construction of three reservoirs in the Zhambyl, West Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda regions jointly with the Islamic Development Bank, the construction of the Yesil counter-regulator in the Akmola region with the support of the Asian Development Bank, and other large-scale projects.

"Investments are attracted for the development of water infrastructure, that is, for the construction, reconstruction and modernization of reservoirs, canals and other facilities. At the same time, international cooperation is not limited to financial support. It also involves the introduction of modern technologies, digitalization of the sector, strengthening human and scientific potential, as well as the exchange of best practices," said Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
