Police in Stepnogorsk solved the theft of a Lexus GX470 SUV after a traffic accident. Notably, the vehicle owner only learned about the incident after police tracked him down. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

On July 20, police received a report of a traffic accident. Officers arriving at the scene found that the driver was intoxicated and the SUV did not belong to him. A pre-trial investigation was launched for unlawful possession of a vehicle.

During operational measures, police found the owner of the Lexus GX470. It turned out the man had no idea his car had been stolen.

"According to the car owner, he fell asleep in the evening, leaving the keys nearby. At that time, his workers were in the house. Preliminary data suggests one of them took advantage of the owner sleeping, took the keys, and went with a friend to drink alcohol, after which he got into an accident," Polisia.kz reported.

Police noted that necessary investigative actions are ongoing in the criminal case. After the investigation is completed, a procedural decision will be made in accordance with the law.

Law enforcement also reminded car owners to observe basic safety measures.

"Even if acquaintances or colleagues are nearby, do not leave keys in accessible places. Simple precautions will help avoid such situations," police emphasized.

The incident occurred in the city of Stepnogorsk. Police urge citizens not to leave their cars unattended and not to entrust keys to strangers. Investigative actions are currently underway.
