In the Akmola region, a man in Stepnogorsk beat his dog to death with a hammer instead of euthanizing the old and sick animal at a veterinary clinic. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Video of the brutal attack on the dog literally stirred up social media users. Passersby and children witnessed the cruelty, and police were called to the scene.
The police department of the Akmola region responded promptly and opened a criminal case on the fact of cruelty to animals.
"On June 11, the police department of Stepnogorsk received information that an unknown man was beating a dog. Police officers arriving at the scene established that the pet belongs to the suspect. Due to the dog's age and deteriorating condition, the owner decided to euthanize the animal," the department reported.
However, instead of obtaining the appropriate service at a veterinary clinic, the man struck the dog multiple times with an object resembling a hammer.
An official investigation has been launched into this incident.
It should be noted that for cruelty to an animal resulting in its death, the man faces: a fine of up to 200 MCI (865,000 tenge in 2026); correctional or community service for up to 200 hours; arrest for up to 50 days.
