The Russian Foreign Ministry has published a video address by Sergey Lavrov regarding the opening of Sputnik editorial centers in Tanzania and South Africa. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The minister expressed gratitude to the authorities of the African states for their assistance in implementing this important initiative.

«The support provided by the host countries is a crucial condition for the effective and safe work of journalists. I also sincerely thank the management of the Sputnik news agency, the editorial teams, partners and organizers of the project for their professionalism, dedication and the extensive work they have done,» Lavrov said.

He noted that Sputnik has been operating in Africa since 2022. In this short time, the agency has built an extensive network of correspondents in the region and has become one of the most popular foreign media outlets.

«An editorial center has been operating in Addis Ababa since February 2025. Partnerships have been established with leading media outlets and professional associations. "Sputnik Africa" has repeatedly won prestigious industry competitions and awards, receiving high praise. In their materials, agency staff comprehensively cover topics important for the continent, including countering neocolonial practices, preserving national identity and strengthening state sovereignty in all spheres of life,» the minister noted.
