The Sаumalkol and Zhanaesil railway stations in the North Kazakhstan Region have reopened after reconstruction. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan, the renovated facilities have already begun accepting passengers.

"The modernization made it possible to update the infrastructure of the facilities, improve the level of safety and quality of service, and create modern and comfortable conditions for residents and guests of the settlements," said Vice Minister of Transport Zhanibek Taizhanov.

He emphasized that the renovated stations will help increase transport accessibility in the region, make trips more comfortable for residents, and contribute to the development of passenger transportation.

In total, the North Kazakhstan Region plans to renovate three railway stations under the modernization program. Two of them — Sаumalkol and Zhanaesil — have already been put into operation after reconstruction.

The modernization is part of a large-scale program to renovate 124 railway stations across Kazakhstan, commissioned by the president. This is the largest project for the development of the country's station infrastructure since independence.

Earlier, Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev promised that 30 more modernized stations would be launched in Kazakhstan by July 1.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that the national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy had filed an application to increase tariffs, citing multi-billion-dollar costs for renovating railway stations and other expenses under the revised investment program for 2026-2030.

It was noted that the modernization of station infrastructure would cost 168 billion tenge in borrowed funds. KTZ also promised to renovate three stations — Astana-1, Almaty-2, and Turkestan — taking into account their historical value.
