A 21-year-old man in the North Kazakhstan region sustained a severe injury to his right hand and was taken to the traumatology department of the Petropavl city multidisciplinary hospital. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
When admitted to the hospital, the man said his hand had got caught in a meat grinder. According to the hospital, his condition was serious.
"As a result of the injury, part of his fingers was traumatically amputated. The bones of the hand, tendons and soft tissues were also damaged," the hospital said.
The patient was urgently hospitalized in the traumatology department. The surgical team faced a difficult task: to preserve all tissues that could still be saved and to restore the function of the hand as much as possible.
During the operation, doctors fixed the damaged bones with metal structures, performed surgical debridement of the wounds and repaired the damaged tendons.
Despite the complexity of the injury, specialists preserved the remaining parts of the fingers and created the possibility for further restoration of hand function. After surgical treatment, the patient continued recovery in the hospital.
The man spent a total of 16 days in the hospital. Doctors warn that maximum caution is necessary when working with meat grinders and other mechanisms.
