Despite their home being damaged in a Russian missile strike in Kyiv, Liudmyla Ryzhak and her fiancé Leonid Ryzhak went ahead with their wedding ceremony. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
The couple's wedding had been postponed several times due to the war with Russia. Liudmyla and Ukrainian serviceman Leonid were sleeping on Monday night when a Russian strike hit a warehouse across the street from their building. The blast wave swept through the apartment, threatening to scuttle the wedding scheduled for Tuesday morning.
However, the couple prepared in their damaged apartment and held the ceremony. Photos by Associated Press photographer Francisco Seco show Liudmyla and Leonid getting ready in the damaged home, kissing before the ceremony, and leaving together after the wedding.
This took place following a Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv on September 8, 2026. The couple's resilience and love allowed them to celebrate their wedding despite the war.
