In the first half of this year, nearly 10,000 Ukrainians moved to Slovakia. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to official data from the Slovak Interior Ministry, 221,920 Ukrainians were registered in the republic at the end of the first half-year. This is approximately 5% more than the previous year.
The increase in the number of Ukrainians was mainly due to citizens who received refugee status in Slovakia. While at the end of 2025 there were 138,826 such people, by the end of the first half of 2026, 146,459 Ukrainians had refugee status in the republic.
Currently, 56,299 Ukrainian citizens have temporary residence permits in Slovakia, and 19,162 Ukrainians have obtained the right to permanent residence in the republic.
The EU Council, starting July 31, requires Ukrainian citizens of military age entering EU countries to document their fulfillment of military obligations in order to receive temporary protection. If such a document is absent, temporary protection is not granted to Ukrainians of this category.
This decision was published in the EU's official journal on August 4 and also applies to the previous period.
