Slovakia will not participate in NATO's new financial aid package for Ukraine, Prime Minister Robert Fico said. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Ansa news agency, the final statement of the alliance's summit in Ankara, scheduled for July 7-8, may include a commitment by allies to allocate about 70 billion euros in military aid to Kyiv annually for several years.
"I am watching the preparations for the NATO summit with great concern and I hear they are trying to raise money for Ukraine again. I am saying this publicly for the first time: I will do everything possible to ensure that Slovakia does not participate in military loans for Ukraine," Fico said during a discussion with students.
He stated that Bratislava will not provide weapons and war funds from its budget to Kyiv but is ready to provide humanitarian aid.
Russia believes that arms supplies to Ukraine hinder the settlement of the situation and directly draw NATO countries into the conflict. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that any shipment of ammunition to Kyiv will be a legitimate target for Moscow.
