The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement following the circulation in the media of appeals from Kazakh citizens asking for assistance in returning to their homeland. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The ministry said it is keeping the situation under review. According to the agency, a number of families have already applied to the ministry asking for help.

Ministry statement

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan has accumulated experience in returning our compatriots from regions where hostilities are taking place in various countries and regions of the world. In this regard, it is especially important to obtain complete and accurate information about Kazakh citizens directly from them or their relatives, rather than through the media," the statement says.

Procedure for receiving information

"A special hotline operates at the ministry to receive appeals from relatives of Kazakh citizens in the zone of hostilities. To ensure legal protection of citizens, the ministry needs complete information: their surname, first name and patronymic, date of birth, presumed location, as well as details of the terms of the employment contracts they have concluded," the ministry says.

Consultations with the Russian side

In order to develop joint measures for the return of Kazakh citizens to their homeland, the MFA continues consultations with the Russian side.

"Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan met with the Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Kazakhstan. In the near future, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation will hold meetings with the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence of Russia," the statement says.
