In the first half of 2026, trade turnover between the EAEU and SCO countries amounted to $197 billion, an increase of more than 17%. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Around 48% of the EAEU's total foreign trade comes from SCO countries, said Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Chairman of the EEC Board.

This positive trend has continued since 2025, he said. "In 2025, trade turnover between the EAEU and SCO countries reached $371 billion. That is about four times more than ten years ago, when the Union had just started operating," said the Chairman of the EEC Board.

These and other issues were discussed at the opening ceremony of the "EAEU Days" event at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing.

According to Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the SCO has the political will to develop a model of open, pragmatic and mutually beneficial economic cooperation. The EAEU region is an important hub for global trade and transit routes.

"Today, SCO member states are committed to implementing initiatives aimed at increasing the effectiveness, coherence and practical benefits of economic cooperation, and we are confident that we can and should use the EAEU's experience in this regard," said the Secretary-General.

Among the EAEU's partners, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization occupies a special place, Bakytzhan Sagintayev said at the ceremony.

"The Eurasian Economic Commission and the SCO Secretariat have long-term business relations. These relations are based on mutual respect, shared views on cooperation and the desire to promote the sustainable development of Eurasian states," he said.
