By decree of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Shyngys Sayranuly Arinov was appointed to the position of akim of Almaty region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Earlier, Marat Sultangaziyev was relieved of his post as akim of Almaty region.
Biography of Shyngys Arinov
Shyngys Sayranuly graduated from the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with a degree in international relations. He then studied law at the Kazakh Academy of Labor and Social Relations and transport organization at the Academy of Civil Aviation.
From 2006 to 2022, he served in various officer and leadership positions in the State Security Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From 2022 to 2024, he was Deputy Head of the State Security Service — Head of the Presidential Security Service.
In February 2024, he was appointed Minister of Emergency Situations.
By yesterday's decree, the President appointed Murat Mukhanov to replace Arinov.
