Before the court verdict, gold weighing about 2.8 kg and valued at 227.8 million tenge was confiscated in favor of the state. This decision was made based on petitions from the Main Transport Prosecutor's Office, according to the statement.
Citizens of Uzbekistan attempted to illegally export the precious metal through Shymkent airport to Turkey. To hide the gold from customs control, its parts were concealed in the inner lining of suitcases and in cargo packaging.
The suspects have been put on the international wanted list. Pre-trial investigation measures are ongoing.
