In Shymkent, an entrepreneur who sold a defective steam iron has been ordered to pay nearly 139,000 tenge, the city court reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The plaintiff purchased a steam iron on a marketplace for 64,000 tenge. However, during use, it was discovered that the steam function did not work properly. The consumer handed the iron to the seller for inspection, but the money was not refunded.

"The court found that the seller did not provide documents confirming the iron's serviceability and its compliance with specifications, including an expert opinion," the statement said.

The court partially satisfied the claim, ordering the seller to pay 64,000 tenge for the cost of the goods, 55,028.82 tenge in penalties, 20,000 tenge in moral damages, and court costs. Claims against the marketplace and the bank were rejected because they were not the seller of the goods but respectively an information technology platform and a financial service provider. The court decision has entered into legal force.
