Police in Shymkent have opened a criminal case over violations of safety requirements at a concert by Kairat Nurtas. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to preliminary data, the number of tickets sold significantly exceeded the permitted capacity of the concert venue. This led to overcrowding and posed a threat to the safety of spectators.

As a result of the crush, an 18-year-old girl was injured and taken to hospital.

"Information circulating on social media about deaths does not correspond to reality. There are no fatalities. The concert organizer, born in 1984, has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility," police said.

An investigation is underway. The course of the investigation is under the control of the leadership of the Shymkent city police department.

Police urged citizens not to spread unverified information and recalled that liability is provided for spreading knowingly false information.
