A court in Shymkent has handed a new sentence to an elderly man who molested an 8-year-old girl in the stairwell of an apartment building. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The criminal case was heard behind closed doors at the specialised inter-district court for juvenile affairs in the city of Shymkent.
The charge was "commission of lewd acts without violence against a person known to be under the age of sixteen".
"On 28 April of this year, the defendant committed lewd acts without violence against the underage victim in the entrance hall/corridor of a residential building in the city of Shymkent. The defendant's guilt was fully proven by the testimony of witnesses and the victim, physical evidence and other evidence collected in the case," the Shymkent city court said.
The court sentenced him to imprisonment for a term of 7 years 6 months.
Recall that the April incident caused public outrage. The 56-year-old man chased an 8-year-old girl in an apartment building and committed indecent acts.
In June, a court issued a verdict against the man — a fine of 216 thousand tenge.
The girl's mother, who disagreed with the verdict, told Sputnik Kazakhstan how the incident happened.
It should be noted that the defendant is a group I disabled person, meaning he has poor eyesight. However, according to the girl's mother, despite his disability, the defendant chased the girl across several floors.
