Systematic violations of the law have been identified in the provision of textbooks to schoolchildren in the Yenbекшi district of Shymkent. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the city prosecutor's office, state schools in the city were short of more than 170,000 textbooks.
"In addition, more than 110,000 worn-out and unusable books were identified. About 74% of the total textbook stock — 2 million copies — needs to be updated," the prosecutor's office said.
Over the past three years, no inventory of the book stock has been carried out taking into account the number of students. The frequency of textbook updates has not been observed, and purchased books did not fully meet the actual needs of schools.
"For example, school-gymnasium No. 38 named after N. Ondasynov requested 293 English language textbooks for fifth grades but received only 90 copies. As a result, students were given textbooks with damaged covers and spines, some missing pages, and worn out," the Shymkent prosecutor's office said.
On the basis of an act of prosecutorial supervision, more than 46,000 students were provided with the necessary textbooks. 73 individuals were brought to disciplinary responsibility.
