Fabe Agro, a company with Polish participation, will complete construction of a greenhouse complex on 9.7 hectares in Shymkent in October 2027. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The complex is to be launched in the Martobe residential area of the Karatau district of Shymkent in October 2027.
"This project provides for a greenhouse complex. The total area allocated for the greenhouse complex is 144 hectares, the first stage includes one greenhouse... Construction work is planned from October 2026 to October 2027 for 12 months," says the environmental protection section of the working project.
Residential buildings of the Martobe area are located more than 600 meters from the future greenhouse, and the Aksu River is more than 2.5 km to the north. The complex will include greenhouses, a boiler house, a complex transformer substation, a diesel power plant, a solid waste site, office buildings, a warehouse, dormitories, a canteen, and parking for trucks and cars.
The first phase will cover 9.7 hectares. The production capacity of the first phase will be 3,250 tons of tomatoes per year. The facility will be built using the company's own funds.
"The greenhouse structure is a frame consisting of metal racks and metal roof trusses. The racks are made of square pipe. The arched truss is made of metal pipes. The connecting truss is made of metal pipes. All connections are bolted. The foundation for the columns is columnar monolithic reinforced concrete," the documentation notes.
The greenhouse covering uses polyethylene film and polycarbonate. Hybrid tomato varieties will be grown in autumn, winter and spring. The greenhouse will specialize in growing red cluster tomato varieties Grandice F1 (Grandis) and Merlis from De Ruiter (Netherlands). Plants will grow on metal-plastic trays with an automated drip irrigation and plant nutrition system and automatic microclimate control.
The greenhouse will employ 95 people, including 85 workers and 10 administrative staff. The hydroponics method used in the project allows growing plants without soil, where the plant receives all necessary nutrients from the solution in the required quantities and exact proportions.
The planned yield is 55.1 kg of tomatoes per square meter. The first harvest will take place from November 10 to 15, and tomatoes will be harvested until June 15 of the following year. After that, the plants will be removed and the greenhouse will be cleaned.
In 2025, following the Kazakhstan Global Investment Forum, it was reported that the Ministry of Agriculture signed an agreement with Fabe Agro to build a greenhouse complex in Shymkent. The co-owners of the Astana-based Fabe Agro are Fabe Polska and Nazym Bakhtiyaroglu.
The project is to be invested with 68 billion tenge. Full implementation was planned for 2028, with production volumes of 36,000 tons of tomatoes and cucumbers.
