The court of Shymkent has issued a verdict in a case involving a crime committed 23 years ago. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to court materials, in 2003 a city resident was in constant contact with international organized criminal groups that sold drugs wholesale to other states.
At that time, he received an assignment from the group's leader to distribute heroin in an especially large amount.
In November, in order to carry out this assignment, he and an accomplice set off by car from Shymkent to Aktobe.
However, on the "Shymkent-Samara" highway they were stopped by police.
"During the inspection of the vehicle, 35 packets containing a powdery substance were seized from the fuel tank, that is, the narcotic drug 'heroin' in an especially large amount weighing 34,047.41 grams," the verdict states.
But the defendant fled.
He was detained in 2024 in the Russian Federation and a year later brought to Kazakhstan.
At trial, his guilt was fully proven.
However, he did not admit guilt and asked for an acquittal.
The judge, however, ruled to deprive him of liberty for 13 years.
The verdict has entered into legal force.
