Shymkent Mayor Gabit Syzdykbekov reported to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the city's socio-economic development. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to Syzdykbekov, last year the gross regional product reached 5.7 trillion tenge, increasing by 11 percent. Shymkent ranked second among regions in this indicator.

"In 2025, 859.5 billion tenge of investments were attracted to the city's economy, of which 72 percent are private. Over the past three years, 50 projects worth 170 billion tenge have been launched in industry, creating more than 3,500 jobs," the mayor said.

He noted that the number of active business entities reached 133,000, and the volume of their output amounted to 4.7 trillion tenge. Its share in GRP increased from 41 percent to 56 percent.

In the first four months of this year, the short-term economic indicator grew by 10.4 percent. This was observed in industry, construction, trade, and transport.

The head of state was informed about the progress of previously given instructions.

"Currently, a modern perinatal center for 200 beds is under construction. Also this year, it is planned to commission a rehabilitation center for 150 beds. Construction of a modern stadium for 35,000 spectators, a specialized complex for Paralympic, Deaflympic sports and boccia is underway," the mayor added.

The head of state gave a number of specific instructions for further development of Shymkent and improving the quality of life of residents.
