A woman whose bag was found to contain a cartridge at Shymkent airport has been fined by a court decision. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The incident occurred in August of this year. The woman had planned to fly from Shymkent airport to Zhezkazgan.
While passing through the inspection area, a 12-gauge cartridge intended for a smoothbore hunting weapon fell out of her bag. According to a forensic examination, the cartridge was factory-made and suitable for firing.
The woman also said she had put the cartridge in her bag without noticing it.
The court stated that under Article 482 of the Code of Administrative Offences (illegal carrying of weapons by individuals), a fine of 86,500 tenge is provided. The judge decided to reduce the fine by 30 percent.
The reason was that the defendant admitted guilt and expressed regret. In addition, the offence was committed for the first time.
By court order, the woman detained at the airport with the cartridge is obliged to pay a fine of 60,000 tenge. The seized cartridge will be sent for destruction.
