Since the beginning of 2026, East Kazakhstan has been visited by 195,000 tourists, while the volume of investment in five major projects in the industry amounts to 124 billion tenge. The results of the tourism season were presented at a briefing by the Regional Communications Service of the East Kazakhstan Region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Tourists and infrastructure
Of the total number of travelers, 189,000 were domestic tourists, while more than 6,000 were foreign guests.
The region has 447 accommodation facilities designed for 22,300 bed places.
Where tourism infrastructure is being developed
Tourism infrastructure is being developed in the Katon-Karagai district, on the shores of the Bukhtarma Reservoir and the Sibiny Lakes, as well as in the territories of Markakol and Altai. In these districts, beaches are being improved, access roads repaired, and water supply, sewerage and electricity supply networks modernized.
Five major tourism projects
Five major tourism projects are being implemented in the East Kazakhstan Region: Katon Park Resort, Forest Hills, Ornek Auyly, Ular Park and glamping sites on the territory of the Medvedka forestry. Their total cost is estimated at 124 billion tenge.
Future plans
Going forward, the regional authorities plan to develop year-round tourism, increase the transport accessibility of tourism sites, improve service quality and create new destinations. Infrastructure development work will also cover mountain and forest areas, lakes and historical and cultural sites of the region.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that in the East Kazakhstan Region, asphalt paving was completed on the last kilometers of the Ust-Kamenogorsk — Altai — Bolshenarymskoye — Katon-Karagai — Rakhmanov Springs road, which had been under construction since 2017. Gastro tour organizer Mukhtar Toibazarov proposed strengthening control over garbage on the territory of the national park after the increased accessibility of the tourism site.
