In Shu city, Zhambyl region, hospital workers died after being poisoned in a sewer manhole. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Information about the incident spread on social media. According to eyewitnesses, during the repair of the sewer system, a plumber descended into the manhole, suffocated, and called for help. Hearing his cries, a laboratory worker descended into the manhole about three meters deep to rescue her colleague, but she also lost consciousness. A third worker, who attempted to rescue the two, also descended into the manhole and could not get out. Only the plumber who descended third survived. He is currently under medical supervision.
The Zhambyl Regional Health Department stated that a special investigation is underway. "Authorized state bodies are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the accident. We urge not to spread unconfirmed information until the investigation is completed and to refrain from any conclusions or comments until the official conclusion is published," the department's statement said.
The police have opened a criminal case. "A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under Part 4 of Article 156 of the Criminal Code, i.e., violation of labor protection rules that negligently caused the death of two or more persons. Currently, all circumstances of the incident are being established," the regional police department reported. A procedural decision will be made based on the investigation results.
