Five people were killed and another 40 injured when a tourist bus crashed in Switzerland. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The bus from the Netherlands, carrying 45 people, struck a road barrier and overturned during the day on September 10 on a stretch between the villages of Sush and Zernecz in the Alpine canton of Graubünden. The crash occurred in a roadworks zone.
Seven rescue helicopters and 13 ambulance crews were involved in evacuating the injured. Three of the injured remain in hospital in serious condition.
Footage from the scene shows rescuers cutting open the overturned bus with power tools.
Prosecutors and police are investigating the causes of the crash. According to preliminary data, no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The travel agency Oad, which organised the trip, said it was deeply shocked by what had happened.
Swiss President Guy Parmelin promised a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands expressed condolences to the families of the dead and injured.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that in August a bus carrying Polish tourists overturned in Hungary. At least 12 people died in the accident and at least 10 more suffered serious injuries. According to a preliminary version, the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. A total of 47 people were on the bus.
