Talks were held between the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan and the Swiss Confederation. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The talks in Astana were attended by representatives of Air Astana, SCAT, SWISS International Air Lines, heads of Basel Airport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Swiss Embassy.
The parties discussed prospects for developing direct air links. Following the talks, the aviation authorities of the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding.
"This document grants designated airlines the right to operate up to 28 passenger flights per week. In addition, a legal basis has been established for cargo transportation without restrictions on flight frequency and capacity," the official statement said.
The parties also agreed on the text of a draft agreement on air services. This agreement will create an updated legal framework for the further development of air links between Kazakhstan and Switzerland.
The delegation from Switzerland also reported that it is considering the possibility of opening regular flights to Kazakhstan.
