Kazakhstani weightlifter Petr Khrebtov took 14th place in the 75 kg weight category at the World Championships held in the Chinese city of Ningbo. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The same Ningbo where world No. 1 tennis player Elena Rybakina recently defended her title at the WTA-500 tournament.
Competing in Group C, Khrebtov used all three attempts in the snatch. He lifted 147 kg and placed 20th.
In the second exercise, Petr failed his first attempt. However, a result of 184 kg was enough for 11th place in the clean and jerk. In the end, the Kazakhstani took 14th place with a total of 331 kg (147+184).
At the May Asian Championships in India, Khrebtov totaled 335 kg (150+180) and finished fifth. In Ningbo, such a result would have put him in the top 10.
The gold medal in this weight category was won by North Korean Ri Renkhen. The 2026 Asian champion lifted 365 kg (160+205) at the World Championships.
At the World Weightlifting Championships, which started in Ningbo on October 27, Kazakhstan is represented by seven athletes. Besides Khrebtov, they are Ayanat Zhumagali (up to 77 kg), Alexey Churkin, Yedige Yemberdy (both up to 85 kg), Lyubov Kovalchuk (over 86 kg), Nurgisa Adiletuly (up to 95 kg) and Artem Antropov (up to 110 kg).
The world championship, which will end on November 8, will be the first official qualifying stage for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
