Thousands of subscribers in the East Kazakhstan, Abai, Pavlodar regions and Zhetysu were temporarily left without communication and internet due to serious cable damage. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to Kazakhtelecom JSC, the incident occurred on June 8 at 16:59 on the Ust-Kamenogorsk — Shemonaikha section. Preliminary data indicates that a resident of the East Kazakhstan Region, who carried out earthworks without coordination and damaged the communication line, is to blame.

"The accident affected the quality of internet services and mobile communications in four regions of the country: East Kazakhstan, Abai, Pavlodar, and Zhetysu regions. The damage to the backbone caused large-scale disruptions in the operation of major operators. A drop in internet speed was recorded in Semey, Pavlodar, and Ust-Kamenogorsk," the company's press service reported.

It is also noted that without broadband internet and city telephony were left Urzhar, Glubokoe, Ayagoz, Borodulikha districts, Makanshi district, the city of Ridder, as well as GPON network subscribers.

In total, the outages affected more than 25 thousand users. Mass failures of fixed telephony were also recorded.

Emergency services are working at the site, and line restoration is underway. Communication and internet are promised to be returned to normal operation soon.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that some Kazakhstanis faced interruptions in the operation of the internet and individual online resources over the weekend. The Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan then explained that the failures were related to damage to the main fiber-optic communication line during construction work.
