A man in Shchuchinsk has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for beating his girlfriend, which led to her death. The victim leaves behind two young children. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The couple had been dating for two years. According to the victim's relatives, conflicts often arose between them, and the woman had previously filed a complaint with the police against the man.
According to case materials, on the night of the tragedy they quarreled again over jealousy. The man severely beat Asem and then called an ambulance. The woman was diagnosed with shock, internal bleeding due to a ruptured liver, fractured ribs and other injuries. She died.
The court found the man guilty of causing grievous bodily harm that negligently resulted in death. In addition to 10 years in prison, he was ordered to pay 12 million tenge to the victims as compensation for moral damages.
"As a sister, I wanted the convicted man to receive a life sentence, because no verdict will bring my sister back or fix what happened. But there is a law, and the punishment was imposed within its framework. I believe justice has prevailed," said the victim's sister, Bakhyt Suyundikova.
Asem leaves behind two children aged six and eight. Their father died four years ago. The children are now being raised by the victim's relatives.
