Kazakh Greco-Roman wrestler Shamil Ozhaev lost his bronze medal bout at the 2026 Asian Games in the 87 kg weight category. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
In the fight for third place, Ozhaev's opponent was Uzbek wrestler Zhalgasbay Berdimuratov. The Kazakh athlete scored the first point, but then the opponent seized the initiative and won with a score of 9:1.
The bout ended early due to Berdimuratov's technical superiority. Thus, Ozhaev finished his performance at the Asian Games in fifth place.
Earlier today, Meirzhan Shermakhanbet won bronze in the 67 kg weight category, defeating Mongolian Ganbayar Namsrai in the medal bout with a score of 4:0.
