President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dismissed the governor of Atyrau region, Serik Shapkenov, from his post, the Akorda reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"By decree of the Head of State, Serik Zhambulovich Shapkenov was dismissed from the post of governor of Atyrau region," the statement said.
Serik Shapkenov was born in 1979 in the village of Karatobe, West Kazakhstan region. He graduated from West Kazakhstan State University with a degree in economist-mathematician. He began his career in 2000 as a teacher at West Kazakhstan State University. Over the years, he worked in the structure of the apparatus of the governor of West Kazakhstan region. In 2012-2015, he was the first deputy governor of West Kazakhstan region. In 2015-2016, he was a state inspector of the department of state control and territorial organization of the presidential administration. In 2016-2018, he was the mayor of Atyrau city. In 2018-2020, he served as the first deputy governor of Atyrau region. From June 2020 to April 2022, he was Vice Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population.
