Historic tugboat emerges in Serbia as river levels hit record low

A historic steam tugboat known as the Slovenian has emerged from the Sava River near Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

Prolonged heat and drought have caused Europe's rivers to reach record-low levels. The wreckage of the old steam boat, known as the Slovenian, is now visible due to the low water level of the Sava River.

Photographs taken by AP photographer Darko Vojinovic show the wreckage clearly. In images taken on August 18, 2026, Stanislav Kozenko is seen standing on the wreckage of the boat.

This event is a stark example of the effects of climate change in Europe, leading to shrinking rivers. Experts warn that such phenomena may become more frequent and pose a threat to water resources.
