In Semey, huge puddles formed on central streets after a heavy rain the day before. Sidewalks were also partially submerged. People had to walk barefoot through the puddles. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Water also accumulated on overpasses under the railway. Drivers cautiously navigated flooded sections, fearing hidden potholes. On the outskirts, residents said hail the size of peas fell.
Special equipment was urgently dispatched to the streets. Municipal workers asked residents to understand the situation.
According to Balzhan Kali, press secretary of the Department of Passenger Transport and Highways of Semey, about 10 units of specialized equipment and relevant teams of municipal services have been deployed to quickly eliminate the consequences of the bad weather.
The city is carrying out work to pump out water and ensure the unhindered passage of storm drains.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote about the consequences of bad weather in Almaty. On May 3, due to heavy rain, the terminals of Almaty Airport were flooded. The roof leaked. The next day, May 4, airport representatives assured that builders had quickly eliminated the vulnerabilities. However, government agencies decided not to limit themselves to oral promises and applied legal administrative measures.
Later, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan intervened in the situation with the flooding of the terminal in Almaty. The Civil Aviation Committee brought the management of the airport to administrative responsibility for infrastructure shortcomings.
On May 19, Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev, who visited the airport at the end of April as part of a working trip and familiarized himself with the progress of its modernization, commented on the flooding of the new terminal, noting that the rain was too heavy.
Recall that forecasters predicted heavy rains and thunderstorms on Thursday, May 28, in almost all regions of Kazakhstan.
