A 22-year-old student, Nurasyl Zhanabayev, lost his hand due to an industrial injury in Semey. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The incident occurred on May 26 at around 8:30 PM at a small foam block production facility. Nurasyl had worked there last summer as a loader, and this year he had been working for about two months pouring cement.
"While standing on the apparatus pouring cement, my foot slipped and my hand got caught in the mechanism. I pulled my hand out," he said. The young man's hand remained inside the apparatus.
According to Nurasyl, his colleagues suggested finishing work and going home that day, but he decided to stay and finish. He advises young people not to start work without fully mastering safety procedures.
Nurasyl's mother, Gulnar Kamazhanova, said she was horrified when she saw the place where her son worked. "When I saw the apparatus that tore off Nurasyl's hand, I was shocked. His health has not fully recovered yet; the stump hurts and aches," she said.
Nurasyl is a student at Alikhan Bokeikhan University, majoring in physical education. The university administration is providing assistance. The mother does not plan to sue the employer but emphasizes the need for strict safety compliance.
A modern hand prosthesis costs approximately 20–25 million tenge, so the student needs financial help. Currently, the labor inspectorate of the Abai region is conducting an investigation at the production site where the accident occurred.
