The specialized inter-district court for criminal cases of the Abai region has issued a verdict against a man who killed his ex-wife with a bat. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The incident occurred on April 17 of this year. While sitting in the courtyard of a house in a state of intoxication, the defendant became jealous of his ex-wife and, grabbing a wooden bat, ran after her. The woman could not escape and died at the scene from severe blows.
In court, the defendant fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse for the murder. The brother of the deceased left the issue of sentencing to the court's discretion.
The judge found the man guilty of killing his ex-wife and sentenced him to 12 years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to pay 10 million tenge in moral compensation to the victim.
The guardianship and trusteeship authority of Semey was tasked with resolving the issue of establishing official guardianship and trusteeship over the convict's two minor children. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
