The heads of the "Semey Ormany" reserve are being investigated for illegal logging for money. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the investigation, the heads of the "Semey Ormany" institution issued permits for logging and embezzled the proceeds. Law enforcement agencies are currently conducting an inspection and identifying those responsible.
The incident has once again raised the issue of corruption in the country's forestry sector. "Semey Ormany" is one of the largest forest areas in Kazakhstan, so such illegal actions could cause significant damage to nature.
No additional information about the investigation has been released yet. Official authorities will report the results later.
