The military court of the Almaty garrison has completed the hearing of a criminal case concerning the death of a conscript soldier in one of the military units of the Taldykorgan garrison. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
On September 23, 2025, during a weapon handling exercise, an accidental shot was fired from a machine gun, resulting in a private soldier sustaining a gunshot wound and dying. The investigation revealed that the deputy battalion commander failed to ensure compliance with safety requirements during the use of weapons and did not organize a full inspection of the weapon after previous firing sessions. Consequently, a cartridge left in the barrel caused the soldier's death.
Based on the trial results, the official was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 453 of the Criminal Code (negligence resulting in grave consequences) and sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
