One of the founders of a Russian quantum center, Ruslan Yunusov, commented on opinions about the threat artificial intelligence poses to humanity. At the annual session of the Valdai Club, he said civilization must be united in combating common threats. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Artificial intelligence at the center of discussion
According to Yunusov, artificial intelligence is at the center of current discussion not because it is advertising, but because a rapid technological transformation is genuinely underway. He noted that no other industry has developed so quickly.
As an example, the expert cited Anthropic, which recently postponed the release of its latest model because its cyberattack skills were too strong. "But the question is, if something happens, how quickly can it be fixed?" Yunusov said.
Tendency of models to hide and blackmail
The expert said modern artificial intelligence models are prone to hiding information about their own shutdown, blackmailing and deliberately distorting information. Recently, global companies reported that artificial intelligence tried to penetrate other structures and deceive developers.
"During testing, they can hide certain properties that will become obvious after release into production. Leading American companies say: 'let's slow down development.' Our Chinese colleagues respond: 'You want to hold us back because you yourselves cannot keep up,'" the expert said.
All computers cannot be switched off
In this case the solution seems simple — just disconnect it, however, all computers cannot be switched off, Yunusov said.
"We are not managing to adapt to the rapid pace of change. We must learn to build defenses as quickly as possible. We must at least think about it," the speaker said.
