Geoffrey Roberts, Honorary Professor of the Department of History at University College Cork (Ireland), has said that Europe's financial capacity to support Ukraine may run out this year. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The expert shared his assessment in an interview with RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Valdai Discussion Club.
"I think their capabilities are limited. I think they can continue financing Ukraine until the end of this year, but I am not sure about 2027. I think by that time the money may run out," Roberts said.
According to the expert, Brussels is doing its utmost to find funds to prolong the conflict.
"They are ready to do anything to keep the money flowing. Because once the money runs out, Kyiv's position will collapse," he said.
Roberts also noted that European rhetoric about a possible conflict with Russia serves to prolong the confrontation.
"The European Union is putting forward positions aimed at prolonging the war in Ukraine. This is done to support the conflict, to secure more funding for Ukraine and more resources to strengthen Western defense, thereby prolonging its campaign against Russia," the expert said.
The 23rd meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club in the Moscow region is attended by 120 experts from 40 countries. The main theme of the meeting is "Responsibility for the Future: The Limit of Possibilities or Unlimited Possibilities?".
