In Astana, a man responsible for the deaths of two people on the Sarayshyk Bridge has been sentenced to five years in prison. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to court materials, the driver, identified as K., was driving across the Sarayshyk Bridge towards Momyshuly Street when he failed to account for road conditions and did not reduce speed. As a result, he lost control of the vehicle and veered into oncoming traffic.

"As a result, he collided with a car driven by S., killing two passengers in that vehicle," the statement said.

The court considered as mitigating circumstances his admission of guilt, sincere remorse, full compensation for material damages to the victims, and forgiveness from the relatives of the deceased.

No aggravating circumstances were found. Taking this into account, the court found K. guilty and sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment and a 7-year driving ban. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
