Aitbek Amangeldy, brother of the murdered Saltanat Nukenova, commented on the release of Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, who was released from prison on July 22 under an amnesty. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
On his social media, he stated that the family and lawyers have no legal means to influence this decision. Amangeldy emphasized that the amnesty issue was considered by law without the participation of the injured party.
Despite the release, Baizhanov's guilt remains a legal fact:
"'Amnesty' does not equal 'innocent'. Amnesty does not cancel the verdict, does not recognize a person as innocent, and does not cancel the guilt established by the court. Baizhanov will remain a criminal with probation supervision for 6 years," wrote Aitbek Amangeldy.
He added that personally it is difficult for him to accept what happened, but from a legal point of view, "the topic is closed."
Baizhanov was released on July 22 based on a court order applying the amnesty law. The court granted the motion of the institution's administration, reduced the unserved part of the sentence, and ordered the immediate release of the convict. After release, Baizhanov is placed under administrative supervision for 6 years.
It is worth noting that he is a relative of convicted former Minister of National Economy Kuandyk Bishimbayev. In May 2024, Baizhanov was sentenced to 4 years in prison for concealing a particularly serious crime in the case of Nukenova's murder.
