Kazakhstan introduced a luxury tax in 2026, but citizens will make their first payments only in 2027. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Gulmira Smagulova, head of the Non-Production Payments Administration Department of the State Revenue Committee, explained: "In fact, the luxury tax will not be paid this year. It will be in 2027. In 2027, we will calculate the tax for 2026, and then the luxury tax norms will come into effect."

The luxury tax on real estate applies to individuals whose total assessed property value exceeds 450 million tenge. It is important to note that this is not the market value, but the assessment carried out by the state corporation "Government for Citizens."

The cost per square meter for calculation is set at 60,000 tenge in Astana, Almaty, and Shymkent, and 36,000 tenge in regional centers.

There is no need to calculate and declare the tax independently, as the State Revenue Committee does it. A notification of the tax amount will appear in banking applications in advance, around June 2027. The payment deadline is October 1.
