In Rudny, 19-year-old Ramazan Usentayev was killed in the stairwell of a residential building. The investigation found that a teenager, who was one floor below at the time of the tragedy, knew about the crime. However, instead of reporting the suspect, the young man fled with him to Kokshetau. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The case was heard by the Specialized Interdistrict Criminal Court of Kostanay Region with the participation of jurors.

According to the court, Usentayev demanded 200,000 tenge from the adult defendant. This led to a conflict between them.

On the night of January 23, 2026, in a house on P. Korchagin Street, the defendant inflicted numerous knife wounds on Usentayev. The young man died at the scene.

As a result, teenagers born in 2008 and 2009, who were 17 and 16 years old at the time, were put on trial. Previously, the investigation believed that the minors acted in collusion. Initially, the 17-year-old defendant was accused of murder by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, and the 16-year-old of aiding this crime.

The prosecutor asked to change the qualification: one young man was to be found guilty of murder without the element of prior conspiracy, and the other of failure to report an especially grave crime. The victim's side insisted on the original charge.

Following the trial with jurors, the now-adult defendant was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code, and the minor under Article 434 of the Criminal Code.

"The guilt of the defendants is proven by the testimony of the defendants, witnesses, experts, the results of forensic examinations, video materials and other materials of the criminal case," the court said.

For the murder, the prosecutor requested ten years of imprisonment. The court imposed nine years in a medium-security institution. It took into account the admission of guilt and the unlawful behavior of the victim, which became the reason for the crime.

The teenager found guilty of failure to report was sentenced to two years and eight months in a medium-security institution for minors. Mitigating circumstances were his age and the fact that he committed a criminal offense for the first time.

The court found no aggravating circumstances for either defendant.

The convicted murderer was also ordered to pay compensation for moral damages to the father and brother of the deceased.

On January 24, Kursiv wrote about the detention of two suspects in the case of Ramazan Usentayev's death. At that time, the akim of Rudny, Viktor Ionenko, said that both had been identified and detained.
