US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed hope that the risk of escalation in the Ukraine conflict will push both sides toward negotiations. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

"I hope that the risk of escalation of the conflict will be one of the factors that brings both sides to the negotiating table and creates a desire to discuss the terms for ending this war," he told reporters during a visit to Portugal.

His joint interview with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro was shown on Fox News.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia wants to stop the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible through a peaceful settlement. Moscow is ready for negotiations, but the president said he sees that the Kyiv regime shows no intention.

Recall that earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that he would soon stop the ninth war. He most often refers to the conflict in Ukraine with this phrase.
